I finally finished watching Fate Chooses You, and honestly, I have a lot to say about this drama.

Not just about the drama itself, but also about how it connects to A Moment But Forever and Love of Thousand Years. All three dramas seem to exist within the same universe, and after finishing Fate Chooses You, a lot of things suddenly started making sense.

But before getting into the connections between the dramas, let’s talk about Fate Chooses You first.

Fate Chooses You Starts Strong

Fate Chooses You Chinese Drama Review: Great Storytelling, Strong Cast, But An Underwhelming Final Battle

The story takes place years after the war between gods and demons.

The female lead, Xin Mei, is an immortal who leaves her sect to visit her aunt while also searching for a way to break a curse placed on her.

Apparently, she must marry three times in order to remove the curse, but every husband she marries eventually dies afterward.

To avoid guilt, she decides to marry a death row prisoner since he is already destined to die anyway. That prisoner turns out to be Lu Huai.

And honestly, this is where the drama immediately hooked me. The pacing at the beginning was fast, but in a good way.

The drama didn’t waste too much time over explaining things. The backstory introduction was simple and effective. As viewers, we quickly understood the situation surrounding both Xin Mei and Lu Huai.

The story trusted the audience enough to follow along without dragging unnecessary explanations.

Xin Mei Was Amazing In The Beginning

One thing I immediately loved was Xin Mei’s personality during the early episodes. She was aggressive, fearless, and honestly felt like a real badass female lead. After Lu Huai’s death, she went on a revenge path and even fought against immortals after interfering with mortal affairs.

The entire chase between Xin Mei and the immortal sect was one of the strongest parts of the drama for me.

This was the point where I truly felt like “Okay, now THIS is a xianxia drama.” The action, tension, and atmosphere during those episodes were fantastic.

My Biggest Problem With Fate Chooses You

This is where my issue with the drama started. Xin Mei was introduced as an incredibly capable and powerful character. Even when facing immortals stronger than her, she still held her ground. But after reuniting with Lu Huai, who later became Lu QianQiao, she somehow became weaker.

And not just weaker physically... Her entire personality softened. The aggression and intensity she had during the first episodes slowly disappeared.

Even though her power level technically kept increasing, it never felt convincing because she constantly lost fights, got injured, and needed saving. It honestly felt like the drama reduced her strength as the story progressed.

Meanwhile, other characters who were technically weaker somehow survived impossible situations more convincingly than she did. That inconsistency really stood out to me.

Lu QianQiao’s Journey Was Interesting

Another thing I found interesting was Lu QianQiao’s path toward becoming a perfect war demon. The process required him to complete several stages, but each stage also reduced his powers.

This created an interesting dynamic because the male lead was gradually getting weaker while the female lead also kept struggling despite supposedly becoming stronger.

It constantly made me wonder “How are these two even supposed to survive the final battle?”

Fate Chooses You’s Connection To Other Dramas

Now this is the part that surprised me the most.

While watching the drama, I slowly realized that Fate Chooses You is directly connected to A Moment But Forever and Love of Thousand Years.

The connections became more obvious whenever the drama mentioned the war between gods and demons.

That war was apparently the same event connected to Yuan Zhong from A Moment But Forever.

Yuan Zhong was responsible for wiping out Lu QianQiao’s clan, and he was also the one who gave the immortal sect the seed of the divine tree as part of his larger plan.

There were also several details involving the broken ladder between the mortal world and the divine realm.

This explained why gods could no longer descend to the mortal world and why immortals could no longer ascend. Even Goddess Wuang’s storyline connects directly back to A Moment But Forever.

Then things became even more interesting when Zheng Yecheng’s character made a guest appearance near the end of Fate Chooses You.

His scenes heavily hinted toward future events connected to Love Of Thousand Years. After putting everything together, this seems to be the timeline:

- Fate Chooses You

- A Moment But Forever

- Love of Thousand Years

And honestly, this connection between the dramas made the universe feel much larger and more interesting.

The Ending Was Both Good And Disappointing

Yes... Fate Chooses You actually has a happy ending. Which honestly shocked me because this is an Allen Ren drama, and his dramas usually don’t end well.

But even though the ending was technically happy, I still found the final battle disappointing. The buildup toward the final confrontation was huge, but the actual fight felt way too short.

Lu QianQiao barely even used his hands during the fight against Li Mo Fu. After all the anticipation, we basically got a five-second showdown.

I understood what the drama was trying to do. They wanted to show the overwhelming power of a perfect war demon. But as viewers, it still felt underwhelming after all that buildup. I also felt like the final episode itself wasn’t particularly necessary.

Final Thoughts

Despite my complaints, I genuinely enjoyed Fate Chooses You. The storytelling was strong, the pacing was mostly good, and the cast delivered fantastic performances.

Allen Ren and Wang Herun had strong chemistry, and the world-building became much more interesting once the connections between the dramas started appearing.

For me, this is still one of my favorite Chinese dramas of 2026.

I’m giving Fate Chooses You an 8.5/10.

And honestly... This drama also made me want to continue watching A Moment But Forever again after dropping it halfway through last year.
