Set during the early years of the Republic of China, Archives: The Nanyang Mystery begins with a strange maritime case known as "Water Ghost Longing for Home." The incident draws the attention of the Southern Archives, an organization connected to the mysterious Zhang family.
Investigators Zhang Haiyan and Zhang Haixia are dispatched to Nanyang to uncover the truth behind the bizarre events. However, what appears to be a simple investigation quickly reveals itself as a deadly trap designed to eliminate members of the Zhang family living overseas.
As danger closes in, Haixia sacrifices himself in an attempt to break the deadlock and give Haiyan a chance to survive. Forced aboard the massive ship Nan'an, Haiyan embarks on a perilous journey back to Xiamen. Along the way, he encounters powerful warlords, hidden enemies, and long-forgotten allies, discovering that the true mystery surrounding their destinies has only just begun.
