The Chinese wuxia drama Blood River (暗河传), also known as Legend of Dark River, Tales of Dark River, has officially confirmed that Season 2 is currently in development. The announcement was made in May 2026 following the massive success of the first season, which reportedly surpassed 1 billion views.
Youku released an official teaser message alongside the announcement:
"The moon shines on the twilight rain, washing away the distant journey; the shadowy figures of puppets reflect in the dark river. In the polar hell, light can be seen."
The drama will once again be produced by Youku, together with Possible Pictures and Shengge Films. Director Yin Tao and original creator/screenwriter Zhou Mu Nan are also expected to return for the sequel.
According to reports, Season 2 is planned to continue the story while expanding the connection between Blood River and The Blood of Youth, presenting them as parallel stories within the same universe.
Blood River Season 2 Plot Details
While the full script has not yet been revealed, reports suggest that the second season may take place around eight years after the ending of Season 1.
The story is expected to continue following Su Muyu and Su Changhe after the dramatic finale of the first season, where the two characters parted ways following the events surrounding the First Prince and their master's fate.
The sequel is also expected to further explore the complicated relationships and conflicts between the assassin families.
Fans React to Blood River Season 2 Announcement
Following the official confirmation, many fans shared their excitement online while hoping the original cast would return.
